Ian, Care Assistant
My Name is Ian , and I work in a local care home. I received a leaflet through my door promoting the Proud to Care recruitment event in Littlehampton earlier this year.
I attended this event and came across Princess Marina House stand, I had heard about Princess Marina House whilst looking on the internet on CQC website.
Corinna from the home approached me and started giving me information about Princess Marina, she explained how they help serving RAF veterans and their families.
Corinna explained how care is promoted within the house, the activities that are provided also the progression available for my career path. I was very interested in joining the team and asked Corinna if I could come and look around the home.
I met Corinna and looked around the home, all the guests looked happy and so did the staff.
I put an application form in, had my interview and was successful with getting the care post.
I have now been working at Princess Marina House for 6 weeks and I’m thoroughly enjoying my time here so far, I feel that I have a good rapport with all the guests and have had many comments ‘how it’s nice to have a male carer working, as I have heard from the care staff that have worked at PMH for several years, that not many males have applied for care positions.
I think without that leaflet through my door and me attending the Littlehampton Recruitment Event, I would not have had the opportunity to work at Princess Marina House.
Inspired by Ian’s story? Then come along to our Chichester Care Recruitment Event on 11 March to find out more about working in care.
