A day in the life of a Dementia Support Worker at Haviland House
Among the most rewarding aspects of being a Dementia Support Worker is the opportunity to interact with our residents that we affectionately refer to as family members, knowing that your support has made a real difference to their lives. It can even be as simple as sharing a cup of tea together or the simple act of singing along with one of them. Moments like these are hugely satisfying and you will feel privileged to spend time with this extraordinary generation. It’s hard not to become emotionally invested in their world and to develop close bonds with them and their families.
As a Dementia Support Worker, you will demonstrate attitudes and beliefs consistent with being person centred and display an awareness, and evidence daily, of why feelings matter most to individuals.
You will assist our family members who are living well with dementia with all aspects of their personal care, but in a way that is focused on people’s feelings and turning a task into a positive social interaction. You will create a happy, homely, and stimulating environment for family members, based on individual life-style choices and the interests of the family members.
Perks on Shift…What Do We offer you?
On the night shift, we have high staff ratio, the opportunity to do your coursework (if you are doing your H&S care diploma for example ) and free sandwiches :)
On the day shift, the opportunity to get involved with fun activities and engagement with the residents
About Haviland House
Haviland House is a specialist dementia care home that was purpose built in 2015 to fulfil the needs of residents living with different stages of dementia.
In 2019 Haviland House was a ‘Best Dementia Care Home’ finalist in the National Dementia Care Awards and the home’s Health & Wellbeing Coordinator won the National Activity Providers Association’s ‘Best Activity Coordinator’ award.
Our key focus is providing a truly person-centred approach, developed specifically to meet the needs of our residents living with dementia. It is important that Haviland House feels like a real home, so we have created an environment in which our residents are happy, independent and confident.
There are five unique, separate households across three stories which are designed to care for particular stages of dementia, allowing specific needs to be catered for. Each household has its own dedicated dementia support carers, who can build rapport, friendship and stability with the residents that they care for.
