Website Turning Tides

About Us

Established 30 years ago, Turning Tides is a multifunctional homelessness charity.  Our mission is to end local homelessness.

We have gone from supporting a handful of people in the coastal town of Worthing to providing a range of services to over 1,700 people in Worthing, Adur, Littlehampton, Horsham and Mid Sussex. We have over 10,000 supporters, 300 volunteers and 160 staff members to date.

We are currently recruiting a Homelessness Social Worker to provide bespoke social work interventions that meets the needs of our diverse client group. This is a unique opportunity to make a difference to people experiencing homelessness and their children. You will have the time and autonomy to apply true person centred, relationship-based practice, keeping choice and dignity at the centre of your work.

The Benefits

– Play an important role within a community-led organisation

– Stakeholder pension scheme

– Health cash plan and life assurance scheme

– 24/7 Support provider with wellbeing, advice and money saving resources

– Up to 25 days’ holiday, increasing with service

The Role

This role will help bridge the gap between voluntary and statutory services through helping people navigate social work processes, ensuring people’s rights are upheld and their needs are met under the provision of the Care Act 2014.

Experience of working with vulnerable adults experiencing multiple exclusions, along with knowledge of mental health and substance misuse is essential to this role. The successful candidate will work alongside clients to help them achieve their goals and ambitions, recognising individuals as the experts of their experiences and futures.

You will provide support and advice to staff, support Turning Tides’ quarterly safeguarding reviews and support the delivery of our internal safeguarding training. The ability to create positive relationships with key stakeholders, including local statutory agencies, and raising awareness of the barriers people experiencing homelessness face, is key to the success of this role.

About You

To join us as our Homelessness Social Worker, in addition to having experience in supporting vulnerable people, will need to:

– Hold a current social work qualification

– Be able to work independently and as part of a team

– Take initiative and responsibility for completing tasks, whilst being able to communicate with a wide range of people

– Have the ability to apply social work theory in practice and have a good understanding of Psychologically Informed Environments and Trauma Informed Practice

– Maintain positive professional relationship with internal and external colleagues
