Our Older Looked After Young People (OLYP) Project provides accommodation and high to medium support for 7 young people. We encourage and empower young people to move forward positively, and to learn and achieve the independent skills they need to live positive and fulfilling lives.
We are looking for a Support Project Worker to join our enthusiastic and dynamic team. In this diverse, rewarding role, you will work proactively, creatively and effectively alongside at-risk young people aged 16 to 17 to identify and develop their assets and talents and to acquire the skills they need to live independent and fulfilling lives. A key focus will be promoting a credit culture and coaching young people to manage or gain life skills and adhere to house expectations, in preparation for independent living.
Your role will contribute to the smooth and safe running of the services by providing consistency and reliability. This will involve recording incidents, accidents and safeguarding issues and sharing information with relevant colleagues. You will undertake housing management and health and safety-related tasks as required. This includes fire, gas and water safety, and buildings inspections. You will work closely with other services such as, Social Services, Police, Probation and build good, professional, working relationships to ensure all agencies are working collaboratively.
Based on site at the OLYP Project, this role is on a rolling rota, working 5 days per week with shifts between 7am to 3pm and 1pm to 9pm this includes weekends and bank holidays. You will get to know the team and project, along with extensive training prior to starting on a rota.

A successful applicant will be a dynamic, innovative individual who is passionate about supporting at risk young people to lead independent lives. Ideally you will have specific knowledge and experience of working with young people leaving care. You will understand the impact of trauma on others and have the ability to work using a strengths-based approach with people who may be in distress.
The postholder will have experience of working in a customer facing environment, remaining calm and solution-focused when dealing with challenging behaviour. You will have good interpersonal skills, the ability to build and maintain strong relationships and a basic understanding of the support needs of young people and/or adults at risk, along with an awareness of all aspects of safeguarding. In addition, you will have IT skills and an understanding of Health and Safety and client data management systems (training on YMCA DLG systems is provided).
