About the role:

As a Peer Mentor you will be working for a people-led organisation whose mission is ‘combating homelessness, creating opportunities, promoting change.’

The role of the Peer Support Worker is to hold a small caseload of clients who would benefit from 1:1 Peer Support. Peer Support Workers meet clients regularly, both in person and virtually, to provide resources and shared experience that gradually coaches individuals to manage their mental health more independently.

In addition to already possessing some ideas on how this can be utilised in a professional role, you will be enthusiastic to learn more. Ideally, you will have some experience of working 1:1 with those with a range of additional needs, providing support that is person-centred and which achieved a positive outcome for the individual/s concerned. This could be demonstrated in a variety of settings and might be paid or voluntary.

About you:

To be successful in the role of Peer Support Worker you will need to have great communication skills and be committed to the values of the organisation. Some of the key skills and experience you will need to bring with you include:

Some experience of supporting vulnerable people or those with complex or additional needs, either in a voluntary or paid capacity.
Experience of working both within a team dynamic and independently.
Some awareness and/or experience of support options available for mental ill health, e.g. GP support, counselling, the charity sector.
The role is fixed term for 11 months, at the end of that period the post holder can apply for a vacant position following internal procedures that BHT Sussex has advertised at that time.

In return:

In recognition of our commitment to staff, BHT Sussex has been awarded Gold Accreditation from Investors in People. We are also signed up to the Disability Confident employer scheme and have made the Mental Health at Work commitment.
