Hours of work every week are fixed to –

Wednesday, Thursday & Friday 4pm – 7pm

Every Saturday & Sunday 7am – 1pm & 4pm – 7pm

Role Description:

To assist Cook and serve nutritionally balanced and attractively presented meals within the home. You will be responsible for preparing of meals under the cooks guidance, serving at meal times and cleanliness of the kitchen and dining area.

Duties:

1. Help plan the menus to provide balanced, varied and interesting meals for clients providing when necessary for any special diets, taking note of client preferences and making the best use of fresh vegetables and fruit in season

2. Check on food stocks, list requirements and order as required working in partnership with the chef

3. Prepare; serve meals; clear and wash up; leave the kitchen clean

4. Make available to residents the ingredients which will allow them to make drinks and snacks for themselves when needed

5. In agreement and consultation with care staff, encourage participation by residents in food preparation and other tasks in the kitchen, and always maintain a welcoming atmosphere

6. Comply with the Environmental Health requirements for maintaining health & safety in the kitchen and other catering areas

7. Participate in resident and staff meetings and in relevant training sessions as required legally

8. Ensure the cleaning schedule for the kitchen is maintained. Report any faults or replacements required to management and/or the maintenance team

9. Other duties as may be required, such as prepare food for special occasions, e.g. Christmas Dinner, birthday cakes, cultural food days, etc

10. Undertakes other such duties as may be required by the cook and management

11. Carry out personal, social or domestic tasks as set out in a care plan, agreed with the client, in accordance with safe working practices and food hygiene regulations. Complete tasks in the time allocated

Good health and attendance record

Ability to work efficiently

Basic literacy and numeracy skills

Flexibility of attitude and work hours

Well-presented appearance

Commitment to basic training and development

Relevant food hygiene qualification

Experience in a kitchen

Desirable

Willingness to attend further training

Ability to use initiative and be proactive in the kitchen
